Police have been unable to identify the body found at a family friendly swimming beach in Sydney Harbour on Friday afternoon.
Officers rushed to Manly Peace Park on Smedleys Point near Manly at about 3pm on Friday afternoon after a body was discovered in Little Manly Cove.
The body was recovered by police during an operation on Friday afternoon, but police said it was difficult to determine whether it was a male or female.
On Saturday morning, a NSW Police spokesperson confirmed the body has now been identified as a male but other details are still being investigated.
The spokesperson said visual identification of the body wasn’t possible so police would need to explore other avenues to identify the body.
“The person is yet to be formally identified,” a NSW Police spokesperson said in a statement.
“The circumstances surrounding the death are now being investigated.”
Little Manly Cove has now been reopened to the public.
Police are appealing for anyone who might have any information to come forward as the investigation continues.
