Chris Stamey is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known for his work with the bands The dB's and Alex Chilton, as well as his solo career. He has also produced albums for a variety of artists, including R.E.M., Yo La Tengo, and The Connells. Stamey was born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and grew up in Raleigh. He attended Needham B. Broughton High School, where he met future dB's bandmates Peter Holsapple and Will Rigby. He began playing guitar at age 12, and soon after formed a band with Holsapple and Rigby. Stamey's first solo album, It's a Wonderful Life, was released in 1981. He has since released several more solo albums, as well as several albums with The dB's and Alex Chilton. He has also produced albums for a variety of artists, including R.E.M., Yo La Tengo, and The Connells. Stamey has been nominated for several Grammy Awards, and has won several awards from the Americana Music Association. He is currently based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. On February 5, 2013, Stamey released the solo album Lovesick Blues on Yep Roc Records, followed by Euphoria in 2015.
