American football coach and athletic director, Vince Joseph Dooley was born on September 4th 1932 in Mobile, Alabama in the United States of America. He studied at the Brothers of the Sacred Heart-run McGill Institute. He competed for the McGill Yellow Jackets athletic teams, and for a while, he thought basketball was his finest sport. Dooley received a scholarship for football to attend Auburn University, where he played collegiate football and then served as Ralph “Shug” Jordan’s assistant coach. In 1954, he earned a bachelor’s degree in business management and joined the fraternity Phi Kappa Theta.

He returned to Auburn and finally earned a master’s degree in history in 1963 after serving as an infantry officer in the US Marine Corps from 1954 to 1956. Dooley was appointed Georgia’s head coach after serving as Auburn’s offensive coordinator for the first ten years of his coaching tenure. He won six Southeastern Conference titles (1966, 1968, 1976, 1980, 1981, and 1982), one National Championship (1980), and more than eight victories annually throughout the course of his 25 seasons.

Vince Dooley Children

Vince Dooley was married to Barbara Meshad Dooley with whom he had four children with namely; Deanna, Daniel, Denise, and Derek.

Among the four, Derek who was born on June 10th 1968 is well recognized for his engagement in athletics. Derek is both a coach and a former player in American football. He is also an offensive analyst for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Between 2007 and 2009, he was the head football coach at Louisiana Tech University. From 2010 to 2012, he held the same position at the University of Tennessee.

However, there isn’t much information provided about his other children.
